Emerald Isle
Standing on the wooden deck, with my hair flowing behind me, I gaze out at the dreamy water around mid-morning. My favorite place to spend hot summers is at the beach. I love the burning hot sand to the colorful sharp shells on the shore to the depths of the blue-green icy water. I walk down the steps, pass the outdoor showers and boogie boards and down the last steps. My toes were first to touch the sand and I walked out to the middle of the beach. I layed out my over size beach towel and sat down. Eventully, I fell back carefully and sun tanned my lightly tanned skin, under the Caronlina sun. But after, 20 minutes or so the sun’s heat is too much to handle so, I decided to get up and take a swim. I stood up and brushed the lightly coated sand off my upper legs. Then I ran and took a dive in the emerald colored water. The waves and tide push me down the beach while I lay on top of the waves in total relaxation. When I think I’ve drifted too far I got up and swam back to the shore. I get out of the water and start walking back to the beach towel with the wind flying all around me. While I was walking back to my towel, I gragged my feet in the breaking waves, and rinsed off the sand stuck between my toes.
Next, I layed back down on my sandy towel but this time on my front. I look around this sweet paradise and watch the kites soaring in the light blue sky, so high that they’re about to touch the heavens, the little boys and girls playing in the sand. They made all sorts of sand castles with their assorted buckets and shuvels. The seagulls talk to eachother and looking for some leftover snacks. The pelicans, with their huge beeks, fly in groups above me. I’m cold and I have the chills up my spine and I’m hoping the sun’s heat will warm me up.
I spent every minute I could on the sandy beach. Later that day I took a walk to the peir with my cousin in our sundresses. While watching the sun set like a big bowl of fire being put out, the breeze from the wind was flowing in our hair. Talking about our magical adventure on our last night, I realized how much I love the wavy cold water which sparcles with the sunlight. How I love sitting and playing in the sand with my family and how I love the breeze from the water. Also, how I love the salty smell of the tide and all the creatures which live above and below the surface, which fly, who swim and everything else.
The next day when I was leaving around noon, going over the Emerald Isle bridge, with all the car windows down and soaking in all the salt air, how much I love this place. I looked out the window looking at the marches on the sound. Everything is so peaceful and relaxed. I thought how much fun I had with my family and how much I can’t wait until my visit next year. We were almost across the bridge when I glanced back and looked once more at the Emerald city in North Carolina, the place I truly love.
